Skirmish is back… again!
We came back this year with the intention of making Skirmish this year a more fun, more engaging experience for our players, and with that in mind we have a few changes to make.
First off, let’s get the ugly stuff out of the way. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Hearthstone are being removed from our Skirmish rotation for the foreseeable future. We don’t see them as good fits for what we’re trying to do with Skirmish, and we’d like to make room for games that we feel will benefit more from this kind of regular event.
With that in mind, what’s filling Weeks 3 and 4 of our Skirmish rotation?
Week 3 – Overwatch (yes, there are 2 now)
We love Overwatch, and we’ve seen a massive reaction from the Overwatch community to our Skirmish events. We’ve decided to double down on our Overwatch schedule and up the frequency from once a month to every 2 weeks. Weeks 1 and 3 will now both feature Overwatch tournaments.
Week 4 – Rainbow 6 Siege
We’ve had an enormous amount of requests over the past months to start up Rainbow 6 tournaments, so we’re giving it a bash. We’re still cementing a few details like our streams, rulesets and formats, but they’ll all be ready in time. Keep an eye out for more info on our socials and in our Discord!
Week 2 – League of Legends, but not as we know it…
League of Legends is a game that’s near and dear to us, we’ve all been players of the game for many years and been running tournaments for nearly as long. At the same time, we’re also aware that our role has shifted more towards providing fun social experiences around this game than top level competition, and as such we’re trialing a new format.
For this round of Skirmish, the League of Legends tournament will be a Free Agent Draft mode. Players will register individually and be assigned to random teams at 10PM GMT the night before the tournament begins. Teams will be balanced around Solo Queue ranks as much as possible to make for a fair tournament – but mostly we’re just looking forward to seeing a bunch of nerds getting together and having some fun as a team. It’s important to note that this is a primarily English speaking tournament, so players should make sure that they have a decent standard of spoken English before entering.
We’re pushing a few updates to our Discord server to make it easier to get info on your preferred games. You can join by clicking THIS LINK, and once you’re there you can head to the #game-roles channel to choose what games you want to get notifications for. From here on out we’ll be tagging these roles in announcements that are relevant to their games, to make sure we can get the info to people without spamming everyone else.
That’s all for now – we’re looking forward to our next round of Skirmish, and we can’t wait to see you all there!
